Brilliant designs start with just one forward-thinking person – this was the case with Luminox when watch veteran Barry Cohen identified a gap in the market and filled it. After coming across Swiss self-powered illumination technology, Cohen realised that applying what he had learnt to watches would make them much easier to read in low and no light situations.

Cohen teamed up with his friend, Richard Timbo, and in 1989 Luminox was born and the pair set about creating their line of high-performance watches with luminescence technology and readability. The quality and cutting edge technology caught the attention of the Navy SEALs who were looking for a more dependable watch. Cohen developed a watch specifically for their night missions and so the brands most famous timepiece was born. Since then, Luminox has developed watches for the US Air Force, professional divers and sports enthusiasts.
